What is a ball bearing?
All ball bearings have a "dot" contact between the ball and the raceway. It is because of this point contact that a larger ball bearing is required for the same bearing capacity as compared with a tapered roller bearing that distributes the pressure over the entire length of the stick (line contact).
A common ball bearing is a "deep groove ball bearing" which is only suitable for light radial loads and is not suitable for axial or impact loads as it can damage the bearings. It is also important to ensure that the lubricant is “clean”. Impurity contamination will cause blockage of the raceway and affect the performance and life of the bearing.
